Classroom Dedication Kicks Off Outdoor Learning PDF Print

The Thrivent Pavilion at Carroll Lutheran SchoolAn official dedication took place on September 24, 2009, for Carroll Lutheran School's Outdoor Classroom pavilion. The student body and about 40 family and community members gathered for a program of reflection and praise for the hard work that has gone into creating this unique environment for learning.

The open pavilion with storage space was built overlooking a wetlands area of the school property that cannot be developed and would otherwise remain unused. The site previously included a number of derelict farm buildings and a large barn.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans provided a $25,000 grant for the pavilion construction and the CLS Family Partnership Program covered the cost of removing the buildings and clearing the site. In recognition of Thrivent's very generous support of this project, CLS has named the new structure the Thrivent Pavilion.

With a picturesque view of our wetlands environment, the pavilion will serve as the location of outdoor learning, nature acitivites, and possibly open community events. With the acquisition of additional grants, CLS hopes to restore wetlands and develop/provide envirnmental education activities for the school and community at large.
